That question was answered recently when teachers in Georgia learned that the governor, who is up for re-election this year, announced that he would be giving every teacher in the state a "classroom gift card" worth $100 toward school supplies at office supply and retail stores in the state. I received mine today, enclosed in an envelope boldly labeled as being forom the Office of Governor Sonny Perdue. You want to believe that it's not just because the gubernatorial election is in four months. But it was teachers--disgruntled over the actions of Perdue's predecessor Roy Barnes--who helped put him in office 4 years ago. And financially speaking, he hasn't exactly shown us the love in his first term. Hmmm...
