Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of misinformed politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

Great news! The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that, after over a decade of ignorance, the City schools have finally seen the light and have begun to re-institute recess for elementary school children. The laughable part is that they are afraid to call it recess anymore. Instead, it is "unstructured break time" or "wellness initiative." Who knew that "recess" was a dirty word that needed a politically correct euphemism?
(There is still great denial by education bureaucrats of the fact that breaks, intermittent play, and getting outside actually improve the mind's ability to learn.) Regardless of their reluctancy, at least the board had decided to do the right thing in this case. Let's not jinx it.
