Facebook, Privacy and Ethics

So I became a Facebook user, poked around for a day or two and frankly I am surprised.

If any government or other private company (say Microsoft or Google) collected this much personal information with a privacy policy as loose and malleable as the one Facebook has and with the indication that the ethics of the CEO were in question there would be a huge uproar on the net and the blogosphere. I have seen no evidence of an uproar though, just fawning praise.

There also still has been no real indication on how Facebook will monetize but what would happen to its warehouse of personal information were made available to Google, or Microsoft or maybe the highest bidder in a bankruptcy auction? Likely there would be a very loud shout from blogs heard around the Techmeme.

Not sure why there is currently deafening silence. Maybe my hearing aid is turned off?
