As Shanghainese are becoming increasingly aware of their legal rights, so to are they becoming increasingly litigious. This case is not only interesting in that it raises the issue of genetically modified food in the Chinese market, however it also raises the increasing emergence of litigation as a means to address perceived wrongs.
This reminds me of the case involving the basketball start Yao Ming, who sued Coca Cola for allegedly using his image without his permission. In order to maintain his image and prove he was suing out of principle, not for money, he claimed damages of 1 yuan.
