While visiting Santee State Park today, I took this picture of the H2 beside a limestone sink hole. The hole is about 20 feet deep before parts of the hole disappear from sight. This area has many sink holes, which result from limestone dissolving away leaving pockets, which later collapse. I waled the trail and saw the various fenced off holes. One had a steady stream of water draining into it, but showed no sign of filling. You could hear the water just going right on down.

Here is a picture from Friday Feb 24 2006 of the acres of tea plants at the Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island, SC. Had a nice trip to check this place out after reading about it in the local paper. Will go back "in season" when the machinery is processing tea from the fields for the full effect. Made sure to pick up a tshirt for the collection. This is also a test of how to upload and include pictures in the blog, so here goes.

Highlights from Feb 3-23 while I was not posting to the blog: - Got passport photos made and worked on forms. - Working on assembling Kobalt 2 drawer workbench, added countertop, assembled Craftsmen workcenter, unpacked 7x10 mini lathe, working on Grizzly metal band saw, assembled metal storage rack and a shop stool from Sams Club, and other workshop setup miniprojects. - Calls/discussions with Berlitz for language classes. - Going through Pimsleur language lessons. Feel pretty good about first 2 lessons. - Collected up items for workshop: rc tank parts, VEX Robotics sets, 12 computer, wireless hub, #2060 attachment chain, roadwheels, M1A1 books, models. - Started learning to make sushi, after getting the right tools and ingredients together over a period of time. Wow is that sushi knife sharp! - Assembled a kit Secretary Desk for Sami, which turned into a 2 1/2 hour construction project, but was interesting in any event. - 1 day trip to Charlotte. Apple Store, bookstore, language books, travel books. - 5 day / 4 night trip to Myrtle Beach and Charlotte with family to visit cousins. We all had a big time and travelled the backroads to see more of real towns, not just boring interstate. various places included Miyabi's, Bass Pro Shop, Pasta and Provisions, Baoding, Asian Grocery store. - 1 day trip up to the farm. - Various research into travel, county parks, state parks. - And various family items, projects, and destinations. - Read two books, watched a few movies (Donnie Darko, The Man, couple others), but mostly avoiding the TV Trap (and computer tar pit).

Today I drove my dad up to the farm where he grew up near Santee SC. We visited with my Aunt, then I headed off to tourist in Santee, then check out Santee State Park. Got signed up for the annual pass which is good for all SC state parks for one low low price ($50). Went over to the sink hole area of the park and walked the trails taking pictures of some of the bigger holes. Checked out some other features of the park then headed back home.

Looked up the state park info on the internet and started looking at which ones might be interesting during this time of year. Will try to visit them all for the hec of it. Some of them look very interesting in the SC mountains.
