Japan will offer 100 million dollars in aid to Sudan to help rebuild
the vast African nation following a peace deal that ended its 21-year
north-south civil war.
Another
sharp jolt felt in Tokyo at 1535 JST. Epicenter, like this morning's
tremor, was in Chiba. This one measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale.
In the earlier morning rush hour quake, some trains were stranded
between stations for hours with thousands on board. Items tumbled from
store shelves, walls collapsed and windows shattered in Ibaraki and
Chiba prefectures.
Magnitude 6.1 quake, at a depth of
60 km on shore on the coast of Chiba prefecture, NE of Tokyo struck at
2222 UTC Sunday. Japan Meteorological Agency says no threat of tsunami.
(The quake registered a 5-plus on the Japanese scale of seven in Chiba
and Ibaraki prefectures, which corresponds to local ground motion.) No
immediate reports of damage or injuries.
