Saipan will face massive power interruptions starting today if
the government fails to remit at least $3 million to
its fuel supplier, Mobil Oil Marianas Inc. which is
holding up the delivery of CUC’s latest shipment of fuel.
CUC comptroller Sohale Samari said at least $1 million of the
$4 million outstanding balance has been “identified.”
He expressed hope that the Department of Finance would be
able to come up with additional funding or negotiate for
a better deal to release the fuel shipment, which is supposed
to have been delivered as early as Tuesday.
