Seventh Annual Labour Website of the Year competition
LabourStart (www.LabourStart.org), the London-based global online trade union news service, announces the beginning of voting for the seventh annual Labour Website of the Year competition. The competition, first held in late 1997, is a unique event which highlights the growing use of the Internet by the world's trade unions -- and the growing sophistication of trade union websites.
In last year's competition, 6,477 votes were cast by trade unionists around the world for nearly 330 different websites. The winning site was Workers Online from Sydney, Australia. This year's nominees include sites from the USA, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, South Africa and -- for the first time ever-- Iraq. The new website of the Iraqi Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), which was launched in the aftermath of the collapse of the Saddam regime, is one of the officially nominated websites. This website and LabourStart have been working to lift the closure of the IFTU offices by US occupation forces in Iraq. See http://www.iraqitradeunions.org/ for more information.
Voting ends on 31 January 2004 and the winner will be announced the following day.
