Speaking of Jinni... I ran into a friend this week who was at HoggFest last Sunday and he said, "Jinni sure looks good and healthy, when will she start her second round of chemo?"

Even though I haven't mentioned it, she had her third of twelve once-a-week infusions of Taxotere this past Thursday.  These will be followed by seven weeks of daily radiation therapy.  The effects of this latest chemotherapy will be cumulative instead of immediate from what we are learning but for now, all is well.

He's right, though.  Jinni does look good.  Real good.  And she feels good, too.

As you can see in Wharton's pictures of last week's HoggFest, Jinni's hair is coming back and she may or may not lose it again.  Cone terms her look "chemo-chic" and I have to agree.  My girlfriend is one striking and strong woman.

Ed Cone's N&R column this morning stands as a witness to all that is good about web based organizing when such organizing has the goal of real world, barbeque based community building.

His recap of last Sunday's HoggFest, and how it came to be, is a lesson for PTA's, church groups, charitable organizations, Fun Fourth organizers, neighborhood associations, and anyone else who needs to get people together for a cause.  The cause Ed writes about happened to involve my Jinni, but HoggFest's formula for success can be duplicated easily.

All you need is a wiki, a weblog, and a willingness to trust that people will respond to a worthy cause like they always have.  It'll just happen mainly online.  The HoggFest wiki was expertly set up by local blogger Ben Hwang and it is located here if you want to see how it works.  And work it did....

HoggFest pictures are here and here.  Weblog based round-ups of the event are here and here.

********************

Due to donations that have come in after I reported the totals last Sunday, the fund to help defray our out-of-pocket medical bills for Jinni's cancer cure has now passed the $10,000.00 mark.

This generosity will go a long way to chip away at the obscene amount of money that it costs to treat catastophic diseases such as Jinni's cancer.  I feel confident I will be able to leverage the HoggFest donations into even an larger amount of debt reduction by negotiating settlements with our medical providers over the coming weeks.  I'll keep you posted.

Donations are still being accepted.  If you want to help click on the "Contribute" button over there ----------> which will take you to PayPal, or email me.
