Check out this Wired article about the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) that wants to digitally recreate every element of a soldier's body, and embed it all on a chip in the soldier's dog tags. Okay, this genetics post is about plants, flowers in particular. I don't see why some of the theories presented could be used in a SF story ala Nancy Kress.
