(Poster & Postcards available)
I'm rebuilding my KAP rig. Why. Short answer is higher resolution. I am now confident enough to put my Canon 400D digital up there. I have been using a Nikon 4100 with a broken screen that I found on TradeMe for $10. Unfortunatley it spent several minutes lens down in a puddle the other day, while I was busy struggling to ground a strong pulling kite. It no longer takes pictures... so either I replace it with another low-res compact or take the big step forward and modify the rig to fit the 400D. I will be adding carbon legs, so the camera is not the first thing to touch the ground on landing and its kept out of the mud before take off. I will be removing the shutter servo, replacing it with a gentLED which will enable me to fire the shutter electronically (therefor taking advantage of the auto-focus) via an RC channel. I ordered all the bits and bobs I need from the KAPshop on Saturday. When it arrives and the rig is ready I'll need to revisit all the KAP shoots I've done so far for the high-res poster-sized shots.
