Estuary to the west, ocean beach to the east, Collingwood is neatly packed onto a little point beside the estuary mouth in the middle of Golden Bay.

Collingwood Township

It's recent claim to fame is becoming the first town in New Zealand to ban plastic bags.

KAP at Totaranui Inlet

A small gap at the very end of the golden beach at Totaranui is only breached by the tide at its height to fill the inlet behind.

I've just spent 8 days touring around Golden Bay on by pushbike carrying my camping and kite aerial photography gear (4 kites and one SLR rig). I got several 'flights' during the tour. Totaranui in Abel Tasman National Park was the first.

Totaranui Beach

It's easy to see how Golden Bay got it's name. The beaches throughout the area are comprised of this Golden Sand.Totaranui Campground (the area to the right of the road) was well worth the bike ride over the windy gravel road to get there. The only other way in is walking the coastal tracks from either end of Abel Tasman National Park.

My mate Bob is the newest Xtracycle owner in Nelson. A beautiful white Electra Townie with the awesomeness of a Free Radical kit attached. These things have the cushiest looking seats ever! Now we've just got to get her used to sharing the road with those crazy Nelson drivers.

Just did it.

New Zealand votes in their new leaders today. Not half as exciting as that other big election this week, but still just as important to those voting. I just xtracycled down to have my say.

I've been meaning to clean my bike for weeks now. In fact it hasn't been properly cleaned since I got back from my East Cape trip. A clean bike is a healthy bike. There just hasn't been any fine days on the weekends for a while, and it's not nice cleaning it when its already cold and wet outside. Anyway... yesterday I got around to it, and as usual I took some photos of my steed.

Xtracycles at Tui Station

2 thirds of Nelson's Xtracycle population out for a cruise on Sunday afternoon.

This cute little building is the latest addition to the Founder's Park historic railway here in Nelson. The track only runs a kilometer or two around the park and has three little historic stations installed now. The train does joy rides each weekend. Tui Station is at the Northern end of the park next to Miyazu Gardens and is quite photogenic. Would be a nice location for some people shots.
