FAXED RESUMES, STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!! I am taking time out from scanning a resume into my computer to again ask job seekers to start using the Internet to Email resumes and stop faxing resumes. Third Party and Corporate Recruiters really do not have time to scan faxed resumes into their computers in Word format, so most do not. Why is this important to the job seeker?
- If the recruiter decides you are not a fit for the present job, the resume is placed either in the file cabinet or the circular file. Once this happens your chances of being considered for any future position is nil.
- Resumes that are entered into computers in Microsoft Word or even text format can be easily searched later by many commercial software programs for the particular job the recruiter is trying to fill (as a third party recruiter, many of my placements are made this way).
- Some recruiters will not even consider a resume that is faxed. They throw it away without even reading it.
- Even if the resume is scanned into the computer in Microsoft Word format, it will contain errors (there is no perfect scanning software yet unless you are using Adobe Acrobat which presents some other challenges that will be discussed later).
- Scanned resumes lose all the "personality" you have so carefully crafted into your resume.
- Resumes that a scanned into a database as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files cannot be modified if a mistake is noticed, and generally search software does not work as well with files in .pdf.
- Faxed resumes make the job seeker appear to be out of step and/or date with the rest of the business world.
I know the reason many job seekers send resumes via fax instead of the Internet is that they are afraid their resume will be lost, blocked by anti-spam software, etc. If that is the case, send a faxed and a Emailed copy of your resume. Even if you do not have a computer, it is worth the extra effort to go to the library and Email your resume from there or find a friend to Email your resume for you.
