SEND RESUMES, NOT CHRISTMAS CARDS Thanksgiving is over and those of us who have survived Black Friday are heading into Christmas at Hypersonic speed. Unfortunately, many job seekers and potential job seekers believe this is not the time to be looking for a job so they stop sending resumes to recruiters and companies. They could not be more wrong.
Our recruiting firm has more open job orders right now than we have had in total in the previous ten months. Companies are calling us an asking us to start looking for the candidates they want to hire immediately following the first of the year. Discovery Personnel, Inc. is third party recruiting firm specializing in the plastics industry. In 2003, jobs were almost non-existent in the plastics industry. We saw job openings increase dramatically in the first few months of 2004, and then slow as we got close to the elections. Now the number of job opportunities in the plastics industry is increasing very rapidly, especially for technicians, process engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, etc. I have to believe the upswing I am seeing in the plastics industry mirrors manufacturing since, so much of plastics manufacturing supplies components for other manufacturers. The weakening US dollar is also helping even though it might start causing problems late next years.
My recommendation is for anyone contemplating looking for a job in 2005, TAKE ACTION NOW!
