Hey, Babies Have Bodies, Too "In the Fogel Infant Lab we believe that the body is central in psychological experience." That's the start of the body awareness section of the Fogel Infant Lab at the University of Utah. The site goes on to say that "Using 'body awareness' approaches, adults can experience spontaneous capacities for the full use of their senses and emotions that they experienced as an infant." Wow, lots of rich food for thought (and action) there. There is also a paper fleshing this kind of stuff out at http://www.psych.utah.edu/fogel/publications/Remembering%20Infancy.pdf.
Fogel's students seem to have an interesting experience when they study with him. "Aside from participating in discussions and reading assigned texts and articles, [the students] also try to understand infancy in an experiential way as they are guided through Movement Awareness exercises that are designed to aid them in evoking participatory memories of infancy." The lab is also collaborating on a study investigating the effects of Feldenkrais Functional Integration lessons on non-speaking autistics.
