Working in Movement

Three ball cascade I've always thought there was a future in applying the learning-to-learn  approaches of somatic practices to "other things" in life. And I do for myself and my clients, at least most of the time. But packaging it all up for mass consumption risks diluting the teachings to the point of irrelevance. As one of my bosses in my broadcasting career put it, "we risk selling the sizzle and going hungry for lack of the steak."  With that disclaimer, there are some approaches worth taking a look at. One is Alexander Technique teacher Michael Gelb's books on juggling. I had already learned juggling before running into his approach. But, like Feldenkrais, Gelb's approach takes you back to the developmental stage learning where I discovered some of the ineffective ways I was performing the juggling moves. While it doesn't have the profound elegance of pure Feldenkrais (or Alexander) lessons, it's an approach worth a further look.
