Pass the butter A study on cholesterol and aging has found a possible link between the size of cholesterol-carrying molecules and longevity. It seems that 100-year olds have the large size and the "younger old folk" have smaller ones. The good news is that the large molecules can be inherited. I have an uncle who just turned 88; he's never much watched his diet and any exercise he's done has been purely by accident. Hope I'm in his gene pool.

Send them to me Seductive Electronic Gadgets Are Soon Forgotten reports on people not like me. In the print edition, there's a picture of a woman and gadgets she bought and never used. An iPod, a Palm, a cell phone, a digital camera and a few other things. One of the points of the article is that the desire for such gadgets bridges the gap between who you are and who you want to be. Gimme a break! Is her self-image one of spending thousands on stuff that she never uses? Enough of this-I need to schedule something on my TIVO!
