Greenspan sees no yuan threat. A rise in the value of the Chinese currency against the dollar would not automatically create US jobs, says the Federal Reserve chairman. US manufacturers have long argued the yuan is undervalued, giving firms exporting to the US a huge advantage. But Mr Greenspan said any fall in Chinese imports to the US would lead to more imports from elsewhere in Asia.  [BBC News | Business | World Edition]

Asia's growth picks up pace. China's economic growth prompts the Asian Development Bank to raise its forecasts for the region. Asia will remain the fastest growing region of the world economy in 2003 and 2004, according the Asian Development Bank's (ADB). The ADB upgraded its regional economic growth forecasts for this year and next for Asia, excluding Japan.  [BBC News | Asia-Pacific | World Edition]

Girls still missing out on schooling. Attempts to improve education have not done enough for girls in developing countries, the UN warns. Every year, 120 million children are left out of primary school. Most of them are girls. Campaigns for universal education have not benefited girls and boys equally, Unicef says - the gender gap is still too wide.  [BBC News | Africa | World Edition]

Good Retail News Tempered by Job Worries (Reuters). Reuters - U.S. retailers enjoyed a merry start to the holidays with a rise in sales in November, government data showed on Thursday, but a jump in initial claims for jobless benefits tempered the season's cheer. [Yahoo! News - Business]
