Blow for textiles firm. More than 270 jobs are set to go at a textiles company which has operated in County Tyrone since 1835. Management at Herdman's spinning mill told its workforce on Thursday that manufacturing would cease in Sion Mills. Study: Women make few gains in appointed government jobs In 1999 women held 29.8 percent of leadership posts appointed by governors. That number rose to 35 percent in 2001, but then dropped to 32 percent two years later, according to a report released Thursday by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at the University at Albany.

Darigold says it won't end lockout Teamsters Local 66 asked WestFarm Foods to end its lockout of nearly 200 workers this week in exchange for a union pledge not to strike for a year, but the Darigold company rejected the offer. Under the proposal, union members would have worked under the terms of the expired contract, with wages and pension benefits frozen, according to Mark Jones, secretary-treasurer of Local 66.  [Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Business]
