Prescott reassures Airbus workers.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott visited workers at Airbus and reassured them that a multi-billion pound programme to build wings for the new A380 super jumbo jet was safe.
Mr Prescott, who was in North Wales as part of The Big Conversation debate, visited the plant in Broughton and said the Government had invested £530 million in the programme.
Fears were raised over its future after problems arose over the transportation of the wings to France, where the aircraft will be built.
Management at Airbus fear the Environment Agency might refuse permission for nearby Mostyn Docks to be dredged to allow in the tankers which will transport the wings.
Mr Prescott said: "It was a matter that we had discussed at Cabinet, this is a matter of national importance as we have more than £500million invested in the development of Airbus.
"It is crucial we get these wings out, and I guarantee that we will get them out." Ananova Mar 5 2004 12:27PM GMT
