Civilian Contractors Pay Price in Iraq (Reuters). Reuters - Known deaths so far include 30 employees and subcontractors working for Texas-based Kellogg Brown and Root, the U.S. military's main logistics contractor in Iraq, and 13 civilians working for San Diego company Titan Corp, which does translation work for the Army in Iraq.  [Yahoo! Delta's Wage War.  At 48.9% of revenue, Delta's wage costs are simply over the top. Hardly lean and mean itself, AMR,  parent of American Airlines, reported wage costs of 40.3% (excluding affiliate revenue) for its latest quarter. JetBlue's sit at an impressive 27.7%. Dupont to shed Belgian jobs. MECHELEN - US chemicals multinational DuPont Nemours announced Wednesday it is to cut 63 jobs among its Belgian staff as part of a global reduction in its workforce. TUNIS, Tunisia, April 14 (UPI) -- An official report said Wednesday unemployment rate in Tunisia dropped to its lowest level in recent years in 2003 to 14.3 percent of the labor force.

The report released by the National Statistics Institute said the rate dropped from 15 percent in 2002 due to increasing foreign investments in the North African Arab country.

It said it is the lowest unemployment rate registered since 1999 when it was estimated at 15.8 percent.

New labor code heralds mutual assistance and partnership in enterprises, minister
Morocco, Economics, 4/14/2004

The new Labor Code to come into force next June heralds a culture of mutual assistance and partnership inside the enterprise said Monday the Moroccan minister of employment, social affairs and solidarity.

The new version of the Code, he explained, meets the expectations of all social partners as nearly 600 articles which were hindering the development of the Moroccan enterprise have been amended. [Arabic News: Business]

Musicians Up In Arms Again Over Computerized Orchestra. There was a big fuss last year when some Broadway musicals looked into replacing their human orchestra with a "virtual orchestra." Musicians went on strike, and shows went off the stage for a while. Now, that same response is happening again for an off-Broadway musical that is trying to use a virtual orchestra as well. Of course, the difference here, though, is that the musical is using the exact same number of musicians whether it's using the virtual orchestra or not. [Techdirt]
