This is a map of a made up place. We were talking about maps as shared place symbols in class the other day. The only real symbols here are the map's labels, but the point is the same, and somehow it wouldn't be at all interesting if it was just a list.

Maps of Imaginary Worlds. Jeff Patterson has a post on Gravity Lens linking to a great big pile of maps of imaginary worlds. No permalinks and the entry is not yet archived , Latveria (think Dr. Doom of Marvel Comics), and a whole great load of Lovecraft: Arkham, Innsmouth, Dunwic [The Map Room]

The map was always one of my favorite parts of reading The Lord of the Rings. Of course, someone has reproduced it online. Unfortunately, he hasn't taken on Far Harad yet.

Then there is another category. Unreal maps of real places. I'm not talking about lies, more like historical fiction, but with maps. Like Neu York I'm sure there are others. There must be a lot of maps where ficitonal things that happen in real places are put on maps. For instance, 121 West 83rd Street. Who lives there? Jerry Seinfeld? Not really.
