I'm reading about how anamorphosis, considered deviant art in the middle ages has become the dominant aesthetic in the 'post-human' or virtual world. I don't fully understand this as anamorphosis seems to be nothing more than parlour tricks on canvas. I guess the web makes everything flat, and to exist in that world is some kind of parlour trick. My problem is I don't understand this virtual world idea beyond the example of the world wide web.
I'm talking about "Data Trash" by Arthur Kroker, which is what I"m reading.
This link, http://www.anamorphosis.com/, has good information on anamorphosis including an app that let's you obliquely anamorphosis your own photos (I haven't tried that yet. Maybe I'll bring a copy to class. At least if I don't understand what I'm reading I'll get brownie points.
Kroker also uses the term "Trompe l'oiel" a nauseating amount. According to this site, a trompe l'oeil only tricks when viewed from it's intended view point. It's almost the opposite of anamorphosis. Anamorphosis can only be seen correctly from an unexpected viewpoint.
