An AP story at CNN.COM makes an important finding in the online reviews at Amazon.com. Because of a software glitch at Amazon.com, the identities of reviewers at their Canadian website were revealed temporarily until the problem was fixed. It turns out that many of the positive reviews were actually written by the authors themselves, and other negative reviews could actually be seen as acts of revenge by rivals. I thought this was noteworthy because it is easy to get caught up in these anonymous reviews. I think I will start only paying attention to reviews where the author was bold enough to sign it with a legitimate identity.
