Landfill fodder
Had a good walk this morning. I took up walking about a year and a half (and about 50 pounds) ago, as a way to take in some exercise. Over time, it's become an enjoyable ritual, even though not all of my walk routes are scenic ones.

The red-jacketed folk of the Business Improvement District's "Clean Team" are people I run into, and around, often during my walks. They make me feel guilty, even though I don't indiscriminately litter, but because so many others do.

Lately, they've had to contend with yet another AOL marketing blitz, as a lot of shrinkwrapped CD's of theirs have shown up on the pavement over the past few days.

Today, I found out where they're all coming from, when I finally got around to picking up my copy of this week's Valley Advocate, and one of those offensive discs fell out from the folds of the paper onto my shoes.

Say, what? These cast-offs littering the streets are advertising inserts from the "alternative" paper! Niiice.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, the cover of this week's paper just happens to be a photo-compilation of Willard Mitt's mugshot sticking out of the top of a recycle bin, with the headline, "Recycle This! Mitt Romney's assault on recycling in Massachusetts."
