- James 4:8,
"Draw nigh [near] unto God, and he will draw nigh unto you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
Your hands have to do with your "works." Your heart has to do with your "issues of life," Proverbs 4:23, "Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life." Thus, your heart has everything to do with what your hands find to do in life.
- James says, 1:8,
"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."
The context is speaking of asking wisdom of God. Asking wisdom of God is contacting God, speaking to God, pouring out your heart unto God in "believing" prayer. The context is speaking of asking of God in a believing heart rather than in double-mindedness, in believing without doubt, believing that when you ask then you will receive answer. Double-mindedness only comes by doubt and sin in the heart.
Sin and double-mindedness keeps us from being near unto God in fellowship. Jesus Christ said...
- John 3:19-21,
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds [works] were evil.
"For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved [proved wrong].
"But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds [works] may be made manifest [made open, evident], that they are wrought [to work] in God."
The only "work" that I know of, Biblically, that causes men, women, and children to draw near unto God -daily- is the work of the "renewing of your minds" as taught in Romans 12:2.
Renewing the mind, while in believing prayer, brings us into contact and thus fellowship with God. Hence, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."
