"On this weekend, as we celebrate the 228th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, one of our founding fathers, Patrick Henry, comes to mind. Never shy about sharing his convictions, he was nicknamed "the firebrand of the American Revolution."
Most of us remember Patrick Henry from history class as the guy who concluded a rousing call for independence with the defiant declaration, "I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death."
Though not as well known, here's another quote of Henry's: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here." [Christdot]
