Colorado Trip
Had a wonderful trip to Aspen over the past weekend. Right off
the plane, we took a hike up to the Maroon Bells (about 9,000 feet) and
then we stayed at a private log cabin situated on a high mountain spur
(11,500 feet). I had a few problems adjusting to such high altitude,
but the company was good and the scenery was exhilarating. I have some
pictures in a web photo album,
if you'd like to see. Folks in the photos are colleagues from school:
we were on a fund-raising trip, and it was very successful!

Land of REAL Chilli
Springfield has been a home to
"chilli" parlors (note, not chili) since the 1930s, when a bowl of hot,
spicy beans and meat, generously sprinkled with oyster crackers,
provided a quick and cheap meal. Today only a few of those parlors
survive (Joe Rogers' at 20 North 9th Street, successor to the Den), but you may still buy Chilliman in cans, and now from an online store. Check out those recipes: one bite, and your arteries snap shut!!
