Today's news
Do it for the Baby
(National Post) - The highly scheduled, multi-tasking child is the goal of the many parents who believe that to give their children a head start they need to get them on the fast track early. This is the second in a four-part series.

Structure Comes First (Part 1 in a four-part series)
(National Post) - 'We wake up every day at six o'clock in the morning during the week. The two girls, the youngest, they have to practise their chess on the computer with their coach in Ottawa. They spend one hour on the computer -- always in the morning, because the mind is freshest then.

Is this how Ryan Malcolm got started?
Iris is going to be on a CD. She spent part of yesterday working at a recording studio, conveniently located just up the street from us. Her and four other girls were back up singers for a track on a CD that is to come out in time for Christmas. She was fascinated by the technology - the fact that they recorded the five girls, and then played it back while they sang over themselves. They did this a couple of times, so in the end it sounded like there was a 20-person choir in the room instead of three teenagers and two little ones.

Joe and his week-end crossword puzzle

Sad week-end
I seem to have been surrounded by sadness and worry over the week-end. I found out that the mother-in-law of a good friend of mine passed away....only having found out she had a very aggressive form of cancer about a week or so earlier. Then I found out my own mother-in-law needs triple by-pass surgery. I also had on the phone two sobbing moms - one the mother of one of my piano students, and the other the mother of a player on Alan's soccer team: both with very sad family news. What's going on out there in the universe anyway??

Crazy Monday
Woke up late this morning. Rushed around to get Alan and myself to the gym by 6:50, only to discover his gym strip was missing from the trunk of the car. I had taken it out on Friday to wash it, and forgotten about it. We decided by the time we went back home, got the gear, and came back to the gym, it would be too late, so we just turned around and went home to relax a bit before work and school.

Then I got involved in reading a book, and it was only with a few minutes to spare that I remembered I was still in my gym clothes and had not showered or put on make-up. So I went tearing off for a two minute shower, dropped Jamie and Alan off at school (Iris has the day off) and got to work about 10 minutes late. Phew! Hope the rest of the day goes more smoothly.

Lucca, you asked for pictures of the newly painted house: here are a couple. The colours are off: the red is deeper than it appears in these photos (cranberry as opposed to bright red) but it gives you an idea. A note about the painting in the left of the photo: it was done by Joe's great-great-great-great grandfather in 1862. That's when the family name was Bunger and not Binger.
