11.08.2003 --- Lunar Eclipse in Iowa City
Lunar eclipse from forest4trees

Wierd weather
What odd weather over the week-end. I'm not sure if the lunar eclipse had anything to do with it or not. Joe and I went out for coffee on Satruday night, and all of a sudden huge winds whipped up, blowing sand in our eyes as we tried to run into the restaurant. Once inside, we watched the wind lift some big boxes (from one of the near-by dumpsters perhaps?) and move them across the road...it almost looked like a giant invisible hand was moving chess pieces on a large game board.

Then, that night, I had the feeling again of needing to crawl out of my skin. It was almost unbearable - I tossed and turned most of the night and played all sorts of mind games with myself trying to ignore my agitation.

Soccer celebration
Alan made the Arctic Winter Games soccer team. They chose 11, and will cut three more in January, but his coach has already told him that unless he gets injured, he's on the travelling team. We had some people over yesterday for a late lunch after we heard the news, and took the opportunity to celebrate (one of the families that was over also has a son who made the team). Caribou pie, mashed potatoes, honeyed carrots, greek salad, and for dessert rum cake with whipped cream and ice cream with bakeapples (we call them cloudberries in the North). And in case you were wondering, for my part of the meal I got all the ingredients right this time!
