A Great Day
I'm here at work killing about 15 minutes until I can go pick Iris up from her job. It's been a great day -- first I had about two hours to myself this morning before anyone else got up...I just curled up with a blanket and read by the fire - so peaceful. I would love to be able to start every day like that.
Then Joe and I went to Sophie's house (the woman who adopted Joe into her Tlingit clan) and she presented me with a new set of dishes and a roasting pan full of various types of food. She said she wanted to honour me in this way because I was Joe's wife, and she wanted me to know if I ever was in trouble I could call on any one in that clan for help. I was really touched. She is the 'clan mother' and as such has a lot of power and respect among her people, so for her to welcome Joe and I and our kids into her family is really quite an honour.
Tonight, we held our Advent Garden celebration. As always, it was beautiful. What a perfect day!
