Another Busy One
I was on a training course today when all hell broke out back at the office....not one but two things that needed my immediate attention. Dealt with most of it during my lunch break, which meant wolfing down my food (something I don't like to do). Glad the day is almost over. Now I'm here at work tying up a couple of loose ends while Alan is five minutes away at a soccer practice.
Survival
Iris leaves on a two day survival trip tomorrow. They're going without any food (only the hot chocolate and OXO cubes that are in their emergency kits) and must make their own snow hut to sleep in. Most of them won't even take sleeping bags, but will sleep in their clothes and a large garbage bag. They will also take snare wire, and some will try to catch a rabbit for their dinner, although I suspect Iris won't be among them...she is horrified by the mere thought. She has learned to design a make-shift 'pot' to boil water ... a tin can nested inside a larger one.
These are all good skills to have, as I keep reminding her. Here in the Yukon it's highly possible one could find oneself on a remote road with a broken down vehicle and have to spend one or more nights outside before being rescued. My arguments don't seem to sink in. Ah well, maybe at some point in the future she'll see the value of this.
There is a bright spot for her in this however. She has to dance the Nutcracker at two schools on Thursday, so has permission to leave the camping trip early. I'm sure she's never been happier in her life to be involved in dance!
