Taking the Plunge Saw an ad in the local papers for a communications supervisor for the territory's energy corporation. Called about it, and the starting pay is almost $20,000 more than I'm making now! The job is doing pretty much everything I do now - giving communications advice, preparing materials like news releases, advertising, brochures, newsletters, speeches, annual reports, dealing with the media, organizing special community events, etc. I'd report directly to the President and be part of the senior management team. The corporation is involved in a variety of projects that I find personally fulfilling - lots of environmentally friendly stuff like wind power, the fish ladder for the Yukon River salmon, etc.
The job is only a two-year term, and there's someone who's been in the position for a while so she will obviously have a huge advantage, but I thought, "What the heck. It can't hurt to apply." We'll see what happens.
