More Songs From the Past I'm not sure if it was Jen's comments about 'A Bridge Over Troubled Waters' or what, but my mind seems to be randomly dredging up the most unexpected pieces of music from my past lately. For instance, I woke up yesterday morning with the song Coulter's Candy in my head. The version I knew as a kid was from Catherine McKinnon's album "A Voice Like an Angel." Here's part of it....
Johnnie Scott was awfu thin, His banes were stickin through his skin; Noo he's got a double chin Wi eatin Colter's candy.
Ally, bally, ally bally bee, Sittin' on yer mammy's knee Greetin' for anither bawbee, Tae buy mair Coulter's candy.
Ally. bally, ally, bally bee, When you grow up you'll go to sea, Makin' pennies for your daddy and me, Tae buy mair Coulter's Candy.
Mammy gie me ma thrifty doon Here's auld Coulter comin' roon Wi' a basket on his croon Selling Coulter's Candy.
Now why would I have remembered that? This morning, it was I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. Go figure!
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime. When you take you gotta give so live and let live and let go oh oh oh oh I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings but I don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover so you better think it over. When it's sweet talking you could make it come true I would give you the world right now on a silver platter but what would it matter.
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy Come along and share the good times while we can.
