Halloween The 31st of October was Trick or Treat day here in New Zealand. Bands of children dressed up in Halloween costumes roam the neighbourhood, going from door to door demanding treats. If the treats aren't delivered then tricks are done. This is an American tradition that seems to have made the jump to New Zealand. I suspect that the marketing department of some of our larger chain stores have something to do with this - any excuse to move that merchandise. The tricks can range from the funny to the truly mean. Me: I am a grumpy middle aged man, not taken too kindly to the idea of organised blackmail. So whilst Terry and children were indoors baking chocolate muffins for the pending arrival of the pint sized blackmailers, I went down to the road and fixed a card board box to the post box. On the front of the box I scrawled "Goblins and ghouls - help your selves!" Inside the box I placed a few discarded wrappers from chocolates and other assorted sweets. For some strange reason none of the ghouls made it to our front door. Terry and the girls were really disappointed. Me: the grumpy one - I got to eat a whole pile of chocolate muffins I otherwise wouldn't have. Boy they sure tasted good. Trick or Treat! comments? [] 9:48:17 AM ![]() |
