Small Schools New Zealand
Here in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, the Labour government planned to 'consolidate' our schools. This at a time when most of the research would seem to indicate that small schools are far better for pupils! These were my writings about this issue.

Bad Maths

I love bad maths - and I feel that the school network review process is revealing many fine examples. So I thought I would add to the noise in my own quite way. Consider

1 000 000 New Zealand citizens are 16 or younger. I assume most are at school.

Mr. Mallard predicts a role drop of 60 000 in 15 years time.

Bill English notes that of 164 schools reviewed to date, 68 will be closed.

So, for a predicted roll drop of just over 6% in 15 years time, we are closing 40% of schools reviewed.

Dodgy maths indeed.

Students discover that race is only skin deep: Students in the United States conduct an experiment that returns unexpected results. We in New Zealand should perhaps ponder on what they have learnt.
