[The Observer]
Now the Pentagon tells Bush: Climate change will destroy us
2-22-04  By Mark Townsend and Paul Harris

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters.

A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.

'Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis. 'Once again, warfare would define human life.'

The findings will prove humiliating to the Bush administration, which has repeatedly denied that climate change even exists. Experts said that they will also make unsettling reading for a President who has insisted national defence is a priority. ...

My comments: Some suggest that the timeline on this impending catastrophic chain of events may be exaggerated (Gods I hope so!!), but even so, the fact remains that our environmental recklessness is seriously affecting our planet—and our very existence is in jeopardy! I seriously doubt Bush will listen even to the Pentagon, his favorite government agency, on this issue. He doesn't care. He has no understanding of or interest in science. (I can't believe anyone thinks he will actually be reading the report!) Plus, as some commenters on The Smirking Chimp site point out, Bush and his fellow foolish fundamentalists believe that soon enough the Rapture is coming and the Earth as a biological entity will be irrelevant (hence the subtitle of my "Earth Is My Home" category!). We have got to get him out! There are so very many serious and important reasons why he must go, but surely this is among the most pressing!
