Human Rights Watch releases 400+ page report [The Independent (UK)] The United States and Britain had no justification for invading Iraq either on the grounds of alleged threats from illicit weapons and terrorism, or as a humanitarian mission, an international civil rights group said yesterday. ... My comments: Not that this is any news to those of us who are paying any attention, of course... WHEN is the US public going to WAKE THE HELL UP?????!!!! How many reports will it take? The US Army War Collge, the Carnegie Foundation, Human Rights Watch... How many people speaking out? Paul O'Neill, David Kay, Kofi Annan... When is the half of this country that still thinks the current regime was right to take us into this nightmare of a war (that has destroyed Iraqi civil society and left the whole country in shambles with no hope in sight) going to get a fucking clue?? Am I the only one who is incredibly frustrated by this apparent total mental blindness on the part of some 100 million at least minimally educated human beings?! (I know I'm not, but you have to let off some steam sometimes!) Arrgghh!!! "...images far tamer than overgrown men battering one another for possession of a scrap of pigskin." An update on the CBS SuperBowl ad fiasco: From Dan Shafer's Eclecticity I was turned on to a quote from Scott Rosenberg at Salon.com: "The MoveOn 'Child's Pay' ad is a substantive argument about the deficit, contains no allusions to Nazism and features images far tamer than overgrown men battering one another for possession of a scrap of pigskin." Amen! Scott goes on to say: "If CBS refuses to run it, MoveOn should mobilize a mass boycott of the network." I agree again! Let's do it! I do however have to disagree with his final comment: "Hell, we wouldn't miss much." CBS should care what I think, because when I do watch television (don't tell CBS how infrequently that is!), it is almost always CBS. I like dramas and almost all of my favorite dramas are on CBS: Judging Amy, The Guardian, CSI, CSI: Miami, The District, Without A Trace, and my absolute favorite, before the STUPID IDIOTS took it off the air, The Agency. Sacramento Mobilization June 2003 against WTO Biotech Ministerial In my recent post about a visitor to my blog from a Federal Reserve Board IP address, I mentioned that I was harassed by some federal cops after the protests in Sacramento last year. Well, they "just" verbally harassed me, made me cry, and took away the stick upon which I had been carrying my (very well-made, if I might add!!) protest signand I thought that was bad. I thought the protest itself had gone fine, but I guess there was some stuff going on in different areas that I didn't know about... From DelCanton.com: "During the Sacramento Mobilization protests that took place from June 20-25, 2003, police officers clad in full body armor attacked peaceful demonstrators. The video - a compilation of clips taken by an independent video journalist - shows acts of unprovoked violence against the protesters and numerous violations of their rights." Man, cops sure have gone overboard whenever people have protested any WTO meetings... I wonder what the WTO is so afraid of... Hmm... |
