Here is an astute comment made in reaction to one of the entries on this weblog.  The comment is worth serious reflection as research supports the anecdotal information from this reader.

"... returning to acedemia after 10 years in the corporate world, I have met hundreds of people who's degrees have absolutely nothing to do with their current careers. I think that what University really prepares you for is a work ethic. When you get out into the real world, if you are flexible, you will be amazed at how many different avenues you can apply different skills. Here is one example, I built a career in Telecommunications based on the ability to speak French. Of course this is oversimplifying it, but a willingness to learn new things combined with a marketable skill can take you a long way."
