Recently I came across some research which encourage students to
participate as research subjects and gain course credit points.
On one hand it would be educational and beneficial to the students to
understand the role of a research subject and the process of a research
being conducted. On the other hand, the researchers now have a participant
pool where recruitment can be easily conducted.
A few questions came to my mind:
How can the researchers and the REB prevent coercion to participate;
How can the rights of the student be protected;
How can a student withdraws from the research if he still need to face the
researcher as a teacher; etc?
Some very good questions to ponder under our ethics rubric.
