Interesting article in this months Web Services Journal from Chris Peltz, Pankaj Kumar and their colleagues at HP.  Chris often has interesting things to say about Web services - I last ran into him when he was ahead of the curve in the BPEL space in making it easy for developers to get their head around the area.  In this article he draws out how JMX and WSDM (Web Services for Distributed Management) might handle the separation of concerns to do with management in a Web services world: Evolving JMX: Supporting Web Services Management Technologies

This is an interesting area for us at Oracle - we belong participate in the JMX JSR and WSDM specification - as we obviously manage our J2EE 1.4 server with JMX (including all our Web Services Managagement functionality) and recently we have been adding in a Web services layer for non-JMX clients - understanding the dividing line between what makes sense in JMX versus what make sense to be managable via Web services is a discussion going on right now.
