Wings on Strings

Having had bad weather for our first two kite flying events, we changed the date from April to July and finally received some good weather on Saturday. A bit more wind would have been helpful but no complaints, it was a colourful, fun event.

This is the Chicago Fire kite display team who perform formation kite flying to music. A still photo doesn't do them justice at all, they fascinating and mesmerizing to watch.

Scott Fisher & Tom P

Another one of the many performers we had through the day. They were all very talented.

A couple had just got married and showed up for their wedding photos. We gave them a free ride in the helicopter.

Ford Tour

The first ever Ford Tri-Motor tour is going incredibly well, better than our most optimistic predictions. I had hoped to caryy 2000 passengers in the first leg of the tour (5 tour stops).  This goal was surpassed after the first two stops in Detroit and Port Clinton, OH. Janet and I spent the 4th of July weekend in Port Clinton, which has a great historical affinity with the Tri-Motor. We worked with an excellent EAA Chapter.

Port Clinton is a big tourist area on the south shore of Lake Erie. Janet and I managed to steal away for an hour and found this lighthouse.

Other News

After 2 defeats and 1 draw we won our first football match on Tuesday, five-nil! It wasn't as hot and humid as usual and I felt much more comfortable, and scored two goals.  Janet was away for the weekend in Columbus OH with the Ford tour so Gregg came round on Friday to hit the drums. Pat Esslinger came along too on keyboards so with me on guitar and occasional vox it sounded like a band from time to time.  I finally had my first aerobatic lesson with Bill Bruns yesterday. It was a lot of fun, we did spins, rolls and loops.  The radio stopped working so we made an unscheduled landing at Pioneer Airport (first time I've landed myself there).  EA Sports Cricket 2004 finally arrived, and much time has been devoted to mastering it.  It is a bit "buggy" but still much better than Cricket 2002. I am 5 games into a season with Lancashire. Carl Hooper hit a double century for me today, tried to get a screen shot of it for proof but it didn't come off.
