More on the ARC Forum

There was less emphasis on sales in Wednesday and Thursday presentations at the Forum. Thursday included sessions of the OMAC users group. Emphasis there was on how standards help users and OEMs build better machines and maintain them at lower expense. Highlight was the official vote of OMAC membership in favor of joining ISA. This merger should help both organizations. OMAC gains from being a legal entity now, as well as entre into the organization's standard setting expertise and knowledge of how to handle intellectual property. ISA gains entre into some industry areas that has eluded it thusfar. Double win.

I've been interesting in return on investment on automation expenditures ever since my work at Airstream many years ago. One topic we wanted to address at Automation World was just this topic. Several speakers on Wednesday addressed the topic. The important factors that they watch? Reducing process variability, improving quality, use OEE calculations, compare metrics such as uptime. Interesting thoughts.
