Somehow I got the misimpression that the correct answers to the King William's College Quiz would be revealed a week after the questions, which would have been Dec 31. The Guardian article with the questions said, "Answers in the new year," which might have been misinterpreted as Jan 1. How I came up with Dec 31, I still can't figure.
Looking on the Guardian website Dec 31, I found no answers. Reviewing answers from past years, I discovered that they were released between Jan 16 and Jan 23, so it seems we still have a few more weeks. It's probably just as well that I was misimpressed. That way I binged on the quiz for a few days and now I'm done with it. If anyone turns up something new on one of my questioned answers, or especially the one that we never got, I'll take note of it on my answers page, but otherwise my final answers will remain final and I'm done with the searching.
Thanks to all who helped out, and especially to master googler Pat Finley. A few others get more "tip" mentions, but only because I happened to read their responses before I got around to looking up much on my own. It was Pat who stuck it out with me to the end and figured out some of the really tough ones that had the rest of us stumped.
I wonder if any of the King William's College students will find their way to Benzene's answers. I set the robots to avoid the answers page itself, but the condensed version of the answers are right here below on the blog, and there's a link to my answers on Crooked Timber. When I Google on "king william's college quiz answers" just now, I see that my first blog entry on the subject appears in the 15th position, and it's easy enough to find the answers from there. I hope I haven't spoiled the quiz.
If any actual KWC students are reading this, please send me an email. (Let me know if you want to remain anonymous.)
