Andrew Sullivan frequently prints comments from his readers on his blog, but he never identifies the writer (an excellent practice, in my opinion).
This "dissent of the day" is not from me, but one might be forgiven for suspecting otherwise; it's exactly the sort of thing I'd want to write.
In fact, as I realized later this evening, I did write something very much like that — and in response to a Sullivan post, too — back in September 2007. It was immensely gratifying, this afternoon, to read someone else making the exact same arguments (even including the allusion to Clinton in Yugoslavia!).
I get so tired of lazy journalists hiding behind the "age-old hatreds going back for centuries" cliché. Nine times out of ten it's inaccurate, and it's just used as an excuse not to have to learn anything about real history.
