Inauguration Day

Something occurred to me as I did my errands in the car and listened to accounts of some of the counter-inauguration events taking place all over the country. I heard it in the words of a woman who commented that we have find reasons and ways to gather together with each other so we can get through the next few years and become stronger. The words of Nietzsche occurred to me, "That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger." But it's more than that. It's like we are a big spring storing energy for an enormous and accelerated leap forward. The creator prepares for that leap by putting pressure on the spring, pushing it down, compressing it into less and less space, until it's properly aimed and ready for release.

What is needed in the upcoming century of accelerated environmental and biological change is an ability for humanity to act collectively and effectively on very short notice to effect large transformations in the way we do things. We aren't there yet. Although we have most of the tools, we need much more practice simply doing things together. We practice by organizing demonstrations, conversing on the Internet. finding countless new ways to take action, to tweak the system, or to bypass it. During this time of apparent trouble, when large parts of the population appear to be reeling in fear and ignorance, we prepare the message, sending it out for anyone ready to hear. We are passing through a dark age, when the old connections will not hold and the new ones are still forming.

When you feel like things above are pressing down, look around. When was the last time you heard so many voices rising up? Whenever you feel despair at the antics of Bush and his cabal remember that the urge for change is forced to the surface by those who wish most to suppress it. So many people are confused and frightened these days, but all it takes is for someone to be ready to hear the voices and follow the voice, and then to find out that the voice is connected to a whole new world that is forming beneath the horizons of the old. In a moment even the deepest dreamers are transformed.
