Now that I've moved all my "news" over here, I see I'll have to edit some of the links.  It'll take a while... bear with me!

Put up a new hit counter. Only now it appears as if I'm party to the sale of some kind of little red motorbike. Oh well, it'll do for now! On the FTL front, we're recording the frame of our show tomorrow, with the excellent vocal talents of Tony Daniels as the "scientist." Oh yes... and a "bee."

Decided to move all my news to this page for a while... I'll continue to post news here and see how it works.

Just put my essay "Sleepless in Whitby" up on the site. Also, we're about to go into production on Faster Than Light. The script is mostly written, the items are booked, the guests are booked... now it's time to record everything.

Plugging away on FTL. Looks like the drama will be "Born of Man and Woman" by Richard Matheson, pending rights availability. Three weeks until we have to deliver the puppy.

Big meeting today, major decisions made. No Captain's Away, at least for now. The show will be half an hour in length. We have to have our next pilot made by the week of March 22nd, so that we can be ready for an eight, ten episode run during the summer, if the Program Director likes this version of the show. The first episode will probably contain a drama about ten minutes long, and several other (hopefully) snappy little features. And we'll probably have a website up soon to promote the show.

Met with author Robert J. Sawyer and fellow CBC'er Fergus Heywood today to discuss the new pilot for Faster Than Light, which Sawyer will be hosting. Next Tuesday we'll meet all day with several high octane movers and shakers at the CBC to dig into it a little deeper, after which we'll begin production.

On another front, I can't believe the response I got to my article "Sleepless in Whitby" in Whitby This Week a while back. Almost everyday someone says to me, "Hey, read your article there a while back!" Have to write something else for them, I guess.

The meetings begin regarding Faster Than Light... soon we'll begin production of the next pilot. Can't wait!

January 25, 2004

Check out "Sleepless in Whitby" in today's Whitby This Week, a little essay originally published in "Multiple News and Views" last year.

The news is good regarding Faster Than Light. It looks like we'll either go straight to series or at the very least do up another pilot (this would be the third!) -- but if we do another pilot, it will be more about figuring out form and content than anything else. I'll be meeting with the development people February 5th to get their exact feedback concerning the pilot they heard, followed up by a day-long brainstorming session with host Robert J. Sawyer. Looks like we'll have the time and money to do this thing up right. There's still a lot of stuff to be determined... for instance, whether it will be half hour or one hour, whether Captain's Away! will be included, and so on. Stay tuned!

January 18, 2004

Photographer from Whitby This Week showed up to snap the headshot for the op-ed piece. Friendly fellow. He actually made me look human... no mean feat, that.

January 16, 2004

Sold an op-ed piece to Whitby This Week, first sale of the year. Also, I'm told there will be some developments regarding Faster Than Light next week. Hope it's good news.

A few irons in the fire as the year begins. Submissions off to SDO Fantasy, Realms of Fantasy, and Whitby This Week. I have a proposal into the CBC Radio program Ideas for a one hour documentary on a subject close to my heart. And I've completed a reasonably final draft of Episode Three of my SF radio play Captain's Away.

December 20, 2003

I'm expecting to hear from CBC Radio's Program Development people after Christmas regarding the fate of my science fiction radio show Faster Than Light, hosted by Robert J. Sawyer. Word so far is that they believe the show has a lot of potential. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

December 10, 2003

Changed ISP's. In the process of moving my website from one to the other. May take a while to get everything straightened out!

October 28, 2003

I've added my meagre film credits to my publications page, along with a shot from the set of the "smash hit" Four of a Kind (you do remember Four of a Kind, don't you?)

October 10, 2003

The Spanish version of my SF doc, translated and produced by Paloma Martinez, was broadcast today on Radio Canada International

October 1, 2003

I was pleased to learn that Radio Canada International has picked up my SF mini-doc and will be broadcasting it soon.

September 19, 2003

My short documentary on SF and SF Fandom aired today on CBC Radio One's The Current. The documentary was recorded for the most part at WorldCon in Toronto, and featured clips from Robert J. Sawyer, Margaret Atwood, Cory Doctorow, John Clute, Tanya Huff, John Scalsi, and more. You can hear the doc here (it starts at about the fifteen minute mark... just click and drag the time bar)

September 4th, 2003

Didn't win the Prix Aurora at WorldCon (we'll just have to produce more episodes of Faster Than Light) but I did get my picture taken a few times. Here's one, with Canadian SF writer Tanya Huff (taken by another Canadian SF writer, Cory Doctorow):

July 6th, 2003

My non-genre short story "The Screw-up" is coming out this month in Our Times: Canada's Independent Labour Magazine

May 1st, 2003

The pilot of the CBC Radio show Faster Than Light, hosted by Robert J. Sawyer, which I wrote and produced, is named a finalist for the Prix Aurora, Canada's biggest SF award (under "Best Work in English, Other")
