Human Digestive System
A graphical representation of the digestive system, from the esophagus to the anus, is shown here. A major part of the system is the colon. A good description of the colon will be found here.
Colon cleansing involves the use of a high enema to clean from the beginning of the Ascending Colon, across the Transverse Colon, down the Descending Colon, to the anus. That length of bowel is approximately 5 feet. The rectum is approximately 6 inches long and terminates at the anus, where waste is expelled.
It should be noted that all those sections could be massaged from the outside of the abdomen to expedite the passage of waste. Pressure is applied along the right side in an upward direction, then across the abdomen and down the left side.
Sketch of the Human Digestive System

When coffee enemas are done the coffee should rise only to the top of the Sigmoid Colon. When doing a high enema cleanse the liquid should reach to the bottom of the Ascending Colon.
The colon is where encrusted fecal matter can cause major health problems because toxins can be recycled continuously.
Good colon health demands that the rectum should be usually empty. This is ensured by eliminating as soon as the urge presents itself.
