Save the humans. Relocate them. Stephan Hawking says we need to move to space to guarantee survival of the human race.  His logic is impeccable, pointing out that we could be wiped out by unpredictable events completely beyond our control. However, we are far more likely to be wiped out by apathy and inaction toward controllable and ongoing processes such as climate change the the end of cheap oil. Far better, I think, to keep the focus on saving our current planet and not on finding a new one.  The technology to save the Earth is firmly within our grasp.  The technology to find a new one is a remote fantasy. It brings to mind the serenity prayer....  Not that I normally do much praying... Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. And it would also be great if I could have more personal effectiveness and be able to change more things. 1:46:46 PM  permalink  comment []
