Aside to dear reader: The reason there are so many posts for each date right now is that I began to blog 3.5 months after I started my comeback; thus, catch-up is needed over April 23-26, at the rate of one month per day.

Walk/Run 35 minutes

0800a 136/84 58

0230p 137/80 59

0600p 154/84 61 about 45 mins after W/R. Why is systolic high after exercise?

Tuesday, March 30, 2004

Ran out of time as a result of talking to Australia, so no gym today.

Got to get back to the stretching and deep breathing I used to do for stress when my heart was acting up five years ago.

0600a 156/94 59

1100a 152/98 61

Then, after 10-minute breaks for stretching and deep breathing (S&DB)

0300p 133/86 58

0830p 128/83 64

So, S&DB it will be, up to five times daily in order to keep the numbers below 140/90, the point where "high blood pressure" starts.

Last summer, when I lost monitored BP, my systolic was generally in 120s and 130s without S&DB, so something has changed. Only thing I can think of is that I'm one year older, and still stressed. On the other hand, HR is 3-4 points lower, so I must be a bit more fit now, after 12 weeks of W/R.

Walk/Run 35 minutes

I'm going to get out the old heart monitor. I may be working too hard. Perhaps 4/1 would be better.

Not happy with my BP measurements, altho HR fine:

Walk/Run 80 minutes

Not so easy this time. Ran out of breath around 30-minute mark and then left hamstring started complaining. Went slower than last week, and ended up covering about 150 metres less ground in my 80 minutes. Even thought about droping to 4/1 from my 2/3 W/R pace

Thursday, March 25, 2004 -- BP 132/76 Pulse 61

Gym 20 minutes

Started to measure BP and HR again as I seemed to get a slight bit dizzy now and then this past week.

Walk/Run 40 minutes

Third day on 8+ hours of sleep and I like it.
11:53:16 AM

Tuesday, March 23, 2004

Gave it a rest. Seems I need 8-8.5 hours of sleep nowadays. I'm aiming to be asleep by 10. Doing a bit of reading rather than television to wind down.

Also: Maybe two gym workouts on top of three walk/run days is too much for me at this stage.

Walk/Run 40 minutes

Hey, I think I'm shuffling along at 15 minutes to the mile, 4 miles to the hour. That would make for a 6.5-hour marathon.

Sunday, March 21, 2004

Rest day, which I regretted the next week. Need to stay in motion, even if only lightly so.

Walk/Run 40 minutes

Fuming about the stupidity at a client of mine. A four-month project has dragged on to eight months, and there is no end in sight.

Drove down to the spit to give the feet a rest from asphalt. Think I'll do my two short days each week down there, as a precaution and because it's a lovely place to spend the better part of an hour. One lap works out to 10 minutes W/R.

Tuesday, March 16, 2004

Needed an afternoon nap in addition to one in morning, so thought I should give the gym a rest today.

Gym 5-10 minutes only as feeling tired.
10:24:30 AM

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

Wow! Woke up feeling tired after 6.5 hours, and now a mid-morning nap lasted 1 hour 45 minutes, so I must be in need of some rest, and probably should skip today's run. But ended up going anyway, with no problems.

Walk/Run 30 minutes

Left foot starting to complain about the pounding so ran on a soccer pitch. Soggy and slow going but it was restfully soft.

Walk/Run 70 minutes

Nice to be on the roads and off the GO station parking lot. Almost all snow and ice have disappeared from the waterfront trails. In my excitement I went out too fast, and had to work on the final stretch home.

Purchased a pair of New Balance 587 12-1/2 EE CD$150, and winter and spring/fall running jackets. Must be getting serious, eh?
